COVID regulations
Overview of the measures
Nationwide regulations
- Mandatory mask use on long-distance trains remains in place.
- In Berlin, masks are still compulsory on local public transport.
- FFP2 masks must be worn in doctors’ offices and outpatient medical facilities.
- When entering nursing homes and clinics, testing is mandatory in addition to the mask requirement.
What the federal states can determine
In view of the expected new wave of infections, the federal states can lay down more far-reaching regulations by ordinance in order to protect the healthcare system or other important areas. The scope of action of the federal states is limited to the following areas:
- The states can stipulate a mask requirement in indoor areas accessible to the public. This can then also apply to events at the fairgrounds.
- In the event of a high number of cases, a mask obligation can also be imposed at outdoor events if the minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained. In such a situation, personal caps for events open to the public would then again be feasible.
- A mask requirement in public transport can be decided.
- If a country establishes a mask requirement for certain areas, exceptions apply to some areas: At recreational, cultural, and sporting events, as well as in the food service industry, a mask need not be worn by anyone who can present a current negative test. In addition, those who are freshly recovered or have received/proved their last Corona vaccination no more than three months ago may be exempt from the mask requirement. The states can decide for themselves whether to allow these exemptions to apply.
- For schools, a masking requirement can be introduced from the 5th grade. At schools and day-care centers, it should also be possible to prescribe tests
