Advanced Pediatric Emergency Care

Format

This course will be offered in a hybrid format with a virtual session and a live session.

Virtual session: Monday, September 5 from 14:00 – 16:00 CET

Live session: Saturday, October 15 from 8:30 – 18:30 CET in the Berlin Congress center

Overview

This course is developed by the Paediatric Branch of the European Society for Emergency Medicine. The branch wants to promote and facilitate the dissemination of knowledge in PEM in Europe and the world through meetings, courses, research, publications, and various clinical activities.

The content of this course will:

cover a broad spectrum of emergency situations (medical/trauma)

present evidence-based knowledge

discuss case scenarios/interactive sessions when possible

enable hands-on skill stations/group discussions for advanced life support

Objective

The objective of this course is to provide participating physicians with both knowledge and advanced skills in recognizing and managing a wide spectrum of Pediatric Emergencies.

Learning outcomes

Consolidate up to date knowledge on selected important and relevant topics in Paediatric Emergency medicine

Reflect on current “best practice” in areas of PEM where the evidence base is poor

Develop an understanding of challenges and dilemmas faced in PEM practice

For who

Resident/Postgraduate and every physician taking care of sick children.

The course participant should have some experience of working in an environment where ill and injured children of all ages are seen and treated. And willing to discuss management and challenge tutors in small group discussions.

  • Paediatric assessment triangle
  • ABCDE
  • Reel cases and challenging approaches
  • Challenging the audience (based on their experiences)
  • Providing evidence medicine on specific topics
  • Small discussion groups
